COREY TAYLOR Says New STONE SOUR CD Is 'One Of My Most Brutally Honest Albums'
September 20, 2006Patrick Douglas of the Great Falls Tribune recently conducted an interview with STONE SOUR/SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On the new STONE SOUR album, "Come What(Ever) May":
"'Come What(Ever) May' is probably one of (my) most brutally honest albums. Even with the honesty that I did with SLIPKNOT, it was very one-sided. I wasn't able to touch a lot of the stuff that I could've touched on, or could've talked about. With this album, it was much more about showing the audience, or showing the world ... that I have more in common with them than they could ever imagine. A lot of times people forget that you're just a human and you've dealt with a lot of stuff that they've dealt with."
On the differences between touring with STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT:
"With SLIPKNOT, it's so much more chaotic. With SLIPKNOT, it's more about the spectacle. With STONE SOUR, it's more about the human side of it. We go for it just as hard as SLIPKNOT does, but with us, it's a little more accessible just for the fact that you can see how much we're enjoying it."
On whether he hopes that SLIPKNOT fans will join him and celebrate STONE SOUR's catalog:
"I never think about that. If you don't write the music for yourself, then nobody's going to enjoy it really, or you cut that audience in half. You can't write with the fear that, 'Oh, I wonder how people are gonna take that.' You've got to have the (guts) to come out and say, 'Look, I make music for me first and you second. If you come with me, then I totally appreciate it. If you don't, then I accept that as well.'"
On shuffling fatherhood and life as a touring musician:
"It's hard being on the road when you're a father. But, it also makes that time you have with them so much sweeter. My son's now getting to the point where he understands that daddy has to go to work and he works for awhile."
On STONE SOUR being its own entity away from SLIPKNOT:
"With this album, we've really kind of put out there that this isn't a side project for people. This is a real band with real drive. Really good talent. And the fans are responding to it now. If they were apprehensive to it before, they're responding to it now."
